Small Boat Harbour to ruin Central Beach? We at Sotheby’s International Realty Plettenberg Bay are strongly opposed to the proposed development as it currently stands, and we encourage the general public to get involved. (For more info: Bitou News article) We are not against improving the facilities at Central Beach or the creation of a Tourist Hub there, but this does not require a commercial harbour, 100 room hotel or massive 482 unit apartment complexes of which some are 7 storeys high and totally out of character for Plett. We need to enhance the beach experience, not destroy it with massive breakwaters across our beach. The key argument that it must be allowed because it will create employment and bring money to Plett is ludicrous. Should we build a casino and golf course on Table Mountain because it will create jobs? A more direct analogy would be to replace Clifton Beach in Cape Town with a SBH. Just because there is money to be made, doesn’t mean it should happen. There is a public gathering on Central Beach where a big “NO” will be created out of people on Saturday 1 June 2013 at 2pm You can participate by registering your views as an interested and affected party (Mike Cohen: steenbok@aerosat.co.za), signing various petitions and making donations where appropriate. |
